In September, Alphaland’s Balesin Key unveils a new chapter in its pursuit of destination dining: the inaugural Balesin Tastemakers, a three-part series set between the island’s Toscana Village and the mountain retreat of Balesin Pines in Itogon, Benguet.
Conceived as a curated program running through November 2025, the series is anchored by three of the country’s most celebrated chefs—Jorge Mendez, Chele González, and Josh Boutwood—each bringing their signature culinary identity to Balesin’s signature settings.
“Balesin Tastemakers began with a clear purpose: to bring the country’s most dynamic chefs into settings that elevate their craft and reward our members’ time,” said Alain Borgers, executive vice president for hospitality of Alphaland.
Alain added, “Balesin Tastemakers is a deliberate step for us. Both Balesin Island and Balesin Pines can stand on their own, and the unique experience from each location is best expressed through the menus our guest chefs create in the venue. We are presenting three distinct evenings, each shaped by its location, its ingredients, and our service standards.”
The series opens September 27 with Chef Jorge Mendez at Toscana Village on Balesin Island. Jorge, who leads the restaurant MōDAN in Manila, is recognized for his bold, progressive tasting menus that have earned him attention in the country’s dining scene.
On October 11, the spotlight shifts to Chef Chele González at Balesin Pines. Chele is known for blending Spanish culinary traditions with Filipino terroir, building a reputation for inventive and refined menus that connect global technique with local ingredients.
The series will conclude November 15 back at Toscana Village with Chef Josh Boutwood, the creative force behind Helm. His work is known for its theatrical approach and meticulous attention to detail, combining immersive dining with modern culinary craft.
The choice of venues reinforces the exclusivity of the series. Balesin Island, a 500-hectare private enclave 60 nautical miles from Manila, offers Toscana Village, styled after Tuscany with terracotta, stone, and wood accents. Meanwhile, Balesin Pines sits 1,400 meters above sea level near Baguio, integrating suites, dining, and helipads into the mountain landscape.
“Balesin Tastemakers reflects what our members value most: rare access, thoughtful craftsmanship, and experiences that feel intimate from arrival to nightcap,” Alain said. “Each dinner is designed as a complete journey guided by chefs at the top of their field.”
Membership and reservations remain exclusive, with all guests required to be accompanied or endorsed by members. Details are available at balesin.com.
