Aftershocks expected after Magnitude 5.5 La Union quake, per Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Friday, Sept. 19, said residents should brace for aftershocks following the magnitude 5.5 tectonic earthquake that struck off La Union at 3:52 a.m.
In its earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said no structural damage is expected from the tremor, but aftershocks are likely.
The agency said the quake was about 52 kilometers northwest of Luna, La Union, with a depth of 20 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the strongest shaking was felt at Intensity 5 in Luna and Bacnotan, La Union. Intensity 4 was reported in Balaoan, La Union; Sablan, Itogon, La Trinidad, Tublay, Atok, and Kapangan in Benguet; the City of Baguio; Tadian and Sagada, Mountain Province; and Villasis, Pangasinan.
Meanwhile, it noted that Intensity 3 was felt in Tuba, Mankayan, Bakun, Buguias, and Kibungan in Benguet; Barlig and Bauko, Mountain Province; Bontoc, Besao, Sadanga, and Sabangan, Mountain Province; and in Lagawe, Banaue, Aguinaldo, Tinoc, Asipulo, Kiangan, and Lamut, Ifugao.
Also, Phivolcs said it recorded Intensity 3 in Bolinao and Bani, Pangasinan; Sinait and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur; and Bontoc, Mountain Province. Intensity II was registered in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Candon and Narvacan, Ilocos Sur; Bangar, La Union; and Dagupan City, Pangasinan. Lower intensities were also observed in parts of Bataan, Bulacan, Cagayan, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales.
