Top taxpayers Judy Ann Santos and Vice Ganda are just two of movie personalities who expressed dismay over apparent misuse of people’s money through so-called ghost projects and other flood control measures amounting to billions of pesos.
The two actors said they were shocked just like the rest of us Filipinos upon learning about the gravity of systemic corruption obtained in various sectors of government. Other sectors who havebravely questioned irregularities in government include Jericho Rosales, Michael V, Iza Calzado.
Michael V has gone as far as doing a parody on controversial figure Sara Discaya, casting himself as Ciala Dismaya and facing a congressional hearing on his TV show, Bubble Gang. The character has gone humorously viral on social media, thanks to close facial similarities between Michael V and Sara herself.
On It’s Showtime, Vice Ganda suggested a tax holiday for Filipinos in the light of concerted efforts to investigate corruption in anomalous flood control projects. He was kidding, or wasn’t he?
A number of other enlightened TV and movie personalities have expressed desire to take part in the massive rally against corruption to be held in EDSA on Sept. 21 as organized by leaders of the Roman Catholic church. Many of these celebrities say they feel cheated knowing that the hard-earned money they pay for their taxes are merely being pocketed in huge, incredible sums, by some of our leaders.
