The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, September 16, said it is monitoring two Low Pressure Areas (LPAs) affecting the country, which may bring rains and possible flooding to several regions.
In its latest weather forecast, PAGASA said that as of 3 a.m., one LPA was located 460 km west of Coron, Palawan, while another was monitored 190 km east-northeast of Juban, Sorsogon. Both LPAs are inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
As of 2 a.m., PAGASA said the LPA near Palawan has an “unlikely” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
The other LPA near Sorsogon, meanwhile, has a “low” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the same period, the weather bureau added.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the easterlies are currently affecting the weather in Northern Luzon.
Forecast weather conditions
In the Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Aurora, Quezon, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected due to the LPA. PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides triggered by moderate to heavy rains.
In Metro Manila, Mimaropa, the rest of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and the rest of Visayas, scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected due to the trough of the LPA, with risks of flooding and landslides.
In Cagayan Valley (except Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya), cloudy skies with scattered rains are expected due to the easterlies. Flash floods or landslides may occur during heavy rainfall, according to PAGASA.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon (habagat) are also expected in Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, BARMM, and SOCCSKSARGEN. PAGASA again warned of possible flash floods or landslides.
In the Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are expected due to the easterlies. Severe thunderstorms may trigger localized flooding or landslides, it added.
In the rest of Mindanao, localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers, according to PAGASA.
The weather bureau urged the public to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas prone to heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to monitor official advisories and take precautionary measures.
