About P1 M worth of 'smuggled cigarettes' seized in Nueva Ecija -- NBI
Almost P1 million worth of smuggled cigarettes have been seized in Nueva Ecija, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
In a statement, the NBI said the smuggled cigarettes were seized last Sept. 9 by joint operatives of the NBI Tarlac District Office (NBI-TARDO) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) during the service of three search warrants against an establishment in the province.
“The warrants were for the premises and a vehicle belonging to Jonifer J. Lajom of Putot, Concepcion East, Zaragosa, Nueva Ecija, who was keeping and selling assorted imported brands of cigarettes in violation of the National Internal Revenue Code under R.A. (Republic Act) No. 8424,” it said.
The seized cigarettes are now in the custody of the NBI-TARDO.
