Don’t look now, but as rock legends Oasis fill stadiums in their ultra-successful comeback tour, other late 90s to early 2000s rock luminaries are gearing up for their return.
UK band Kula Shaker, of “Govinda” and “Tattva” fame, are bringing back their Beatle-Harrison-esque tinged brand of psychedelia with a tour and new music to boot that’s forthcoming and still looking quite cool more than two decades after first breaking into the alt-rock scene.
Alt-pop faves Pulp have popped back with their 2025 release titled “More.” Gen X would know Pulp from songs such as “Common People” or with their excellent ‘98 tune “Like A Friend” that I first discovered through the soundtrack of the movie Great Expectations, where it sat side by side with Chris Cornell’s epic “Sunshower” and other cool inclusions.
Supergrass is celebrating the 30th anniversary of “I Should Coco” with a tour. Gaz Coombes, Mick Quinn, and Danny Goffey are celebrating this ’90s standout album, and all accounts say that the band is performing like they’re newcomers on the scene. “Alright” is up there alongside the greatest Monday-morning up-and-at-’em playlists alongside the likes of “Walking On Sunshine” and “Little Latin Lupe Lu” re: Jack Black and High Fidelity. IYKYK.
Aching for a Blur comeback to go alongside the Oasis revival? Look no more, at least partly, as Damon Albarn has announced a new Gorillaz album that’s coming in 2026. Albarn and Jamie Hewlett have already released “The Happy Dictator” as a precursor and also shared that the new album will feature collaborations with The Smiths’ Johnny Marr, Anoushka Shankar, Black Thought, Bizarrap, Yasiin Bey, and more.

Oh, and Radiohead also recently announced that they will be reuniting. A tour is already scheduled, and one of them is a date at the O2 Arena in November 2025. So, it's better to book that trip to the UK later this year. What? No money for airfare, hotel booking, and a show ticket to go to the United Kingdom? Maybe ask a DPWH contractor to shoulder the costs. If they can allegedly lose hundreds of millions at the Casinos, surely they can spare some loose change for a measly trip, stay, and show for a handful of their music-loving countrymen. “Pa-burger ka naman dyan, Brice!”
I just might be out of the loop, but the only late ’90s and early 2k alternative act I’ve heard that’s recently active is Pedicab, who just released the electro-drenched single “Weaponized.” Industrial metal guitars, sonar pings, and Prodigy-like beats drive Diego Mapa, Jason Caballa, Mike Dizon, Raimund Marasigan, and RA Rivera’s latest dip into their collab-space, and it’s worth drenching the sonic walls of your headphones.
Oh yeah, Soapdish is on the radar once more with “Tensionado” as their early 2k single goes viral on TikTok and on YouTube, which, amazingly, sounds current by 2025 standards.
Finally, Aliya Parcs has dropped her own album after all these years. Aliya Parcs is an R&B music artist and keyboardist whose name became a staple on the live circuit in the early aughts. Name a venue, bar, and ‘pwesto’ – Bagaberde, Katips, Ipanema, Virgin Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, etc. – Aliya Parcs probably played it as a main draw in every one of them. For her to release her first all-live EP titled “Live at Loudbox” only now, only she can answer, and it’d probably be an interesting story in itself. But here she is, still laying down smooth R&B-flavored tunes, sounding and looking good while at it.
Gen X does it best.
