Progressive groups marched along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 13, from the EDSA Shrine in Ortigas to the People Power Monument in Quezon City to protest alleged corruption in government flood control projects.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the protesters demanded transparency and accountability. Among their calls were:
“Ibalik ang ninakaw, hindi ang magnanakaw (Return what was stolen, not the thieves).”
“Panagutin lahat ng korap! (Hold all the corrupt accountable!).”
“We deserve transparency, no to ghost projects!”

The groups said unfinished and substandard flood control projects continue to waste billions of pesos while communities remain defenseless against flooding.
They urged the government to investigate irregularities, punish those involved, and direct public funds toward real solutions.
The march was part of a wave of protests in recent days against alleged anomalies in infrastructure programs.
On Sept. 11, hundreds gathered at the EDSA Shrine for a similar rally against questionable flood control projects, while on Sept. 12, students and faculty from the University of the Philippines staged a “Black Friday” walkout to protest both corruption and education budget cuts.
