The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed a criminal complaint against a man who misrepresented himself as an agent of the bureau.
In a statement, the NBI said a charge for usurpation of authority under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) was filed before the Iligan City Prosecutor’s Office against Brenneth Ryan S. Buot.
“The case stemmed from a complaint alleging that Subject Buot falsely claimed to be an agent of the NBI and encouraged individuals to invest in Fu Dalu Agricultural Products Trading,” it also said.
After verification, the NBI Human Resource Management Division (NBI-HRMD) certified that “Subject Buot is not a member or employee of the NBI.”
During the investigation, the bureau learned that “Buot consistently displayed a fake NBI badge and identification card, carried firearms, and introduced himself as an agent.”
It also said that in one instance “Buot even picked up the complainants from the airport, escorted by armed individuals dressed in police and military uniforms, thereby creating the misleading impression that he possessed official government authority.”
