SOJ Remulla: Contractors in 'anomalous' flood control projects should return funds first to be state witnesses
Government funds should be returned first if persons involved in the “anomalous” flood control projects decide to become state witnesses, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said on Monday, Sept. 8.
“Kung meron silang nakuhang pera na hindi dapat, isauli nila sa Republika (If they took money that should not have been taken, they should return it to the Republic),” declared Remulla during a press briefing.
This was pointed out by Remulla after contractors and spouses Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya and Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya sought to become state witnesses following their revelations before the Senate on Monday on who were the government officials involved in the anomalous flood control projects of the government.
“You don’t walk off laughing at our system because you enrich yourself and get away with a crime. Hindi (No). Dito (Here) you give it back to the state where it belongs before you are considered for immunity,” Remulla declared as he cited existing laws.
Meanwhile, Remulla said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will be conducting a forensic accounting of the funds from these anomalous projects.
“We are organizing a team from the NBI. ‘Yung pinakamagaling forensic accountant ng NBI is already on board (The best forensic accountant of the NBI is already on board),” he said.
