‘How to be you’ may well be the query young people could ask Kathryn Bernardo, currently the Philippine movie industry’s box office queen. Kath holds the distinction of being attached to two record-breaking films—one holding the #1 spot (Hello Love Goodbye), and the other the #3 spot (Hello Love Again).

The leading top draw among entertainment personalities in endorsement deals, the actress remains in-demand in her game.

She has about 35 brand endorsements running simultaneously. Generally, actors make a lot more money in endorsements than they do in movies or TV shows.

Kathryn is reportedly moving to an exclusive high-rise in Makati, One Roxas Triangle. She’s set to star in an ABS-CBN TV drama series opposite James Reid, the production of which will start soon. Happily, she’s not one of those children of the rich who flaunt their wealth on social media. She works hard to enjoy her lifestyle.

Coco Martin has reportedly cut ties with his longtime manager, Biboy Arboleda, formerly with ABS-CBN. Both parties haven’t issued any official statement. Rumors claim money issues are at the center of the falling- out.

At the premiere of Kintsugi, a film by Roland Sanchez, at Fisher Mall last Aug. 31, we bumped into Ihman Esturco, a former theater actor and discoverer of Coco Martin. Ihman is currently in Manila, taking a break from his work in Arizona, USA, where he has been based for some time. He’s grateful that his extended vacation in the country has allowed him an opportunity to do some acting again.

When Coco learned that his former manager was home, he quickly offered him a role in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo. One could surmise that the two have reconnected as they tried to catch up with each other’s lives and concerns.

Ihman was instrumental in launching Coco as a lead star via ‘Masahista’ (2005). It was he who formed a team to produce the film, tapping then production designer Brillante Mendoza to direct what was to be his first film.

‘Masahista’ exposed the story of young male masseurs, led by Coco Martin’s character, catering to gay customers in dimly-lit parlors around Metro Manila. Ihman also assigned the then-struggling actor his screen name, Coco Martin, after two popular personalities at the time: Coco Chanel and Ricky Martin.

A nostalgic parade of vintage San Miguel Beer TV commercials brought us back to the 1970s and 80s as San Miguel Pale Pilsen celebrated its 135-year history and heritage as captured in a limited-edition Balik Tanaw can.

We remembered our friends in advertising, who produced those commercials, and the actors, among them Fernando Poe Jr. and Bert Marcelo, who acted in them. They provided a meaningful backdrop to the festive Filipino-inspired celebration held on Aug. 13 at ECJ Hall at the San Miguel Head Office in Mandaluyong City. A special performance by Ice Seguerra and the cast of the returning musical play, PETA’s Walang Aray, a modern take on the zarzuela of old, prefaced the celebration.
