Mayor Vico on attending Senate flood control probe: 'Wala namang invitation sa akin'

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Wednesday, Sept. 3, said he has not received any invitation to attend the Senate probe into the alleged anomalous flood control projects but added that he would attend if invited.
During a media interview at the inspection and pre-construction works of the Metro Manila Subway Project, Ortigas Station, Sotto was asked if he would be willing to testify against the Discayas regarding the issue. He replied, “Wala namang invitation sa ’kin sa ngayon (I have not received any invitation as of now).”
“Kahit sino naman po, hindi naman ‘yan sa kung gusto o hindi, kapag sila (Senate) nagpatawag, required po ‘yun (For anyone, it is not about whether you want to or not. If the Senate issues a summons, it is required),” he added.
‘No more comments’
The mayor said he had no additional comments on the recent Senate hearing, noting that he had already said what he had to say.
“Wala na naman po akong additional comments. ‘Yun na ‘yun, I will let the senators do their job (I have no further comments. That's all, I will let the senators do their job),” he said.
He also vowed that the local government would continue to assist, saying it is conducting its own parallel investigation into the issues.
He reiterated his earlier statement on the importance of accountability, stressing that those responsible, whether government officials, contractors, suppliers, or politicians, should be held accountable.
The mayor stressed that Filipinos must not let the issue fade, saying it should remain alive until those accountable face consequences.
Sotto added that he had no further comment on the luxury cars seized during the Bureau of Customs’ (BOCs) search at St. Gerrard Construction, owned by Sarah and Curlee Discaya.

He simply called for an end to alleged corrupt practices in infrastructure projects, saying, “Bahala na po ang customs. Ang importante yung mga infrastructure projects na hindi na maulit, kasi paulit-ulit na yung nangyayari sa atin eh. Kailangan po matigil na yung mga kalakaran… (Let the Bureau of Customs handle it. What is important is to ensure that irregularities in infrastructure projects do not happen again. These practices must stop).”
In addition, Sotto said the ongoing Senate and House investigations are a good start, but emphasized that filing appropriate cases is what matters in the end.
