3 'overstaying' Chinese nationals arrested in Tawi-Tawi – BI
Three “overstaying” Chinese nationals have been arrested in their attempt to sneak out of the country through a backdoor route in Tawi-Tawi.
In a statement on Tuesday, Sept. 2, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) identified them as Zhang Xiaofeng, 36; Guo Jinxia, 35; and Zhong Xiongwei, 54.
Citing reports from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) Chief Rendel Ryan Sy, the BI said the three foreigners were intercepted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) during separate inspections conducted last Friday, Aug. 29.
It said that the Mapun Municipal Police Station (MPS) intercepted Zhang and Guo during a routine checkpoint at the Port of Mapun in Tawi-Tawi.
Zhong, on the other hand, was intercepted by the 1st Special Operations Unit of the Special Boat Crew of the PNP Maritime group on a different port during an inspection activity, it also said.
“The subjects were temporarily held under the custody of the Tawi-Tawi PPO (Police Provincial Office) and the PNP Maritime Group,” the BI said.
After finding that the three Chinese nationals are already overstaying in the Philippines, they were turned over to the BI which transferred them to its detention facility in Taguig City pending deportation.
