NBI nabs 3 persons for 'sale of stolen imported meat products'
Three persons have been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Quezon City after they were caught selling portions of the stolen shipment of imported meat products valued at about P5 million.
The NBI identified the suspects as Rhea S. Rivera, Mia Lyn Cunanan, and Rodel C. Deniega who were arrested during an entrapment operation by the bureau’s Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-OTCD) last Aug. 22 at the BMR Frozen Meat Products Trading in Quezon City.
Seized during the operation were 37 boxes of meat products and six cellular phones used by the suspects in their operation, it said.
After the arrest, the suspects were presented for inquest before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1612, the Anti-Fencing Law of 1979, in relation to Republic Act No. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The NBI said its OTCD agents conducted the operation after receiving a complaint concerning the loss of a container loaded with imported frozen beef shanks, valued between P5,000,000 and P6,900,000.
It also said “the complainant was able to trace portions of the missing shipment being sold online through a social media platform under the account name ‘Kaye’s Imported Cold Cuts’ – Frozen Meat Supplier at BMR Frozen Meat Products Trading (BMR) located in Cubao, Quezon City.”
During the entrapment operation, the NBI said the complainant placed an order for 30 boxes of beef quarter shin shanks and seven boxes of hind shanks for the total amount of P133,884.
“After handing over the marked money and confirming that the purchased meat products were portions of the missing shipments, the NBI-OTCD agents immediately announced their authority and arrested Subjects Rivera, who received the marked money; Cunanan, who acted as the cashier; and Daniega, who released the meat products,” it also said.
