CEBU CITY – Two motorcycle riders died when a trailer truck ran over them in a vehicular accident at the South Road Properties (SRP) here on Friday morning, Aug. 29.
The fatalities were identified as Romiel Gapate, the 31-year-old driver of the motorcycle, and Stephanie Zundit, the 21-year-old back rider.
The two victims suffered severe injuries, police said.
Investigation by the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office showed that the motorcycle and a trailer truck driven by Noreno Santarita, 48, were travelling in the same direction at SRP in Barangay Mambaling when the incident happened.
Police said the motorcycle maneuvered toward the inner lane when it was hit by the trailer truck.
Gapate lost control of the motorcycle and crashed.
The two fatalities were thrown off their motorcycle and were ran over by the trailer truck.
Police said that Zundit was the girlfriend of Gapate’s brother. Gapate was supposed to bring Zundit to a mall where the woman worked.
The driver of the trailer truck was detained pending the filing of charges for reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and damage to property.
