MOVIEGOER: Gerald never stops dreaming
Singer-actor Gerald Santos is starring in a concert called "Dreams" at the Newport Performing Arts Theater on Dec. 3.
At 34, what are some of this gentleman’s dreams?
First off is stability, he told us during an Aug. 7 media meet-up.
“I want to be more financially stable. I hope to open another business aside from my barber shop in Tanauan, Batangas. I also hope to achieve more stability in my career.”
Speaking of which, he added that one of his fondest dreams is to finally come up with a hit that he could call his signature song.
Another dream is to be able to form his own family with his US-based girlfriend, Grace. They’ve been carrying on a long-distance relationship since 2023 and it seems to work for the both of them.
“If both of you are willing to work it out, LDR will work,” Gerald said. “I am no longer a teenager. My outlook in love is if she is the one, then you can feel it. I believe we are really meant for each other.”
The two of them fly from one end of the world to the other to bond. Gerald is currently with Grace in New York for a couple of weeks. She was here in Manila early this year to witness Gerald’s Courage concert at the SM North EDSA Sky Dome.
"Dreams," the concert, will comprise of Gerald’s dream songs, a playlist of songs he had always wanted to sing but never had the opportunity to.
Songs like those from "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Cats," "Sunset Boulevard," "Pippin." Even Basil Valdez’s vocally challenging “Sometime, Somewhere.”
"Dreams" is the latest concert installment in Gerald’s series of one-man shows that include Grateful, Courage, and Giving Back. Through this concert, he will have a window to pay tribute to his idols, Pilita Corrales, Freddie Aguilar, and Nora Aunor.
“Ate Guy was ever so supportive of my career. She attended two of my concerts, and I’m forever grateful to her for that,” he said.
Gerald’s grateful heart goes all the way to London on Oct. 19 when he stages a concert at St. John’s Church in Nottinghill for the benefit of projects lined up by Filipino communities in the city. Remind that it was in London where he first shone on the international stage as he played Thuy for three years in the long-running theater musical, "Miss Saigon."
