Korean TV show cast members shocked as Kim Jong-kook reveals marriage plan: 'It's true'
Cast members of Korea’s longest-running variety TV show “Running Man” were shocked when singer and entertainer Kim Jong-kook revealed that he is getting married.
At the end of the Aug. 24 episode of “Running Man,” footage showed the preview for the Aug. 31 episode in which Kim Jong-kook announced about his upcoming marriage.
The cast members gathered to start filming the show. It was filmed on Aug. 18, the day Kim Jong-kook, 49, announced to his fans that he would be tying the knot.
“Before the shoot, Jong-kook called out the members one by one” to tell them, according to “Running Man,” which aired on Viu.
Host Yoo Jae-suk asked actress Song Ji-hyo, “Ji-hyo, are you crying?”
“Yes. I’m a little touched,” she said.
As they filmed their opening segment, Jee Seok-jin said, “I still can’t believe it.”
“Yes. I’m so happy for him,” said Song Ji-hyo.
Yoo Jae-suk commented, “I thought he was joking.”
Kim Jong-kook finally confirmed, “It’s true. I’m getting married. I’ll live happily.”
The cast members were surprised as no one knew about his relationship.
“As you know, I don’t like celebrating my birthday. I want to keep things quiet. If I announced it on another day, I thought you guys would have placards here on 'Running Man.’” said Kim Jong-kook.
On behalf of the cast, Yoo Jae-suk said, “We have always asked Jong-kook when he would get married every New Year. And finally, our Jong-kook is getting married.”
Korean media reported that Kim Jong-kook will marry his non-celebrity girlfriend on Sept. 5 in Seoul.
In April 2023, the cast of “Running Man,” including Kim Jong-kook, held a fan meeting in Manila.
