BI works closely with NICA to ensure PH's border control, security
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has started working closely with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) to ensure the country’s border control which is “a matter of national security.”
Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said that working closely with NICA will ensure that every piece of intelligence is maximized to protect the Filipino people and uphold the integrity of our borders.
Viado led the BI in a high-level briefing with the NICA last Aug. 22.
He said the NICA-BI partnership shows that “those who attempt to exploit our immigration system will be met with a stronger, united front.”
He pointed out that immigration officers are considered the first line of defense at the country’s international ports of entry and exit.
Immigration officers are tasked with preventing the entry of undesirable aliens, fugitives, and other individuals who may pose a threat to public safety and national security, he stressed.
“Strengthening intelligence coordination ensures that BI officers are better equipped with timely and accurate information to fulfill this mandate,” he also said.
