BUTUAN CITY – A New People’s Army commander surrendered to reunite with his family in Surigao del Sur on Friday, Aug. 22.
His brother also surrendered with him and were officially presented to the 36th Infantry Battalion (IB) in Barangay Puyat, Carmen, Surigao del Sur led by Lt. Col. Joselito B. Ante Jr.
“The NPA commander happily reunited with his wife and their newborn child,” said Ante.
The surrenderers turned over high-powered firearms, assorted live ammunition, improvised explosive device (IED), and other bomb-making materials.
A former comrade rescued by the 36th IB in an encounter in Surigao del Sur on June 25, 2025 convinced them to turn themselves in.
Relentless military operations also prompted the two brothers decide to surrender.
The military said they anticipate more communist rebels in the province to surrender.
