The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has 30 new officers who graduated last Aug. 18 from the Philippine Immigration Academy.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado led the pinning ceremony for the graduates.
Last December, 38 immigration officers also graduated from the academy.
Immigration officers are deployed to the country’s international seaports and airports.
Earlier, the BI had said it will purchase over 100 electronic gates or e-gates that will be installed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
E-gates, which were launched in 2019, are unmanned gates that process traveling passengers and replaces the immigration booths manned by BI officers.
The BI said the processing time of every passenger going through e-gates takes around eight seconds compared to the estimated 45 seconds processing time in manned counters.
There are now 21 e-gates installed at the NAIA.
