10 persons arrested for 'online scam operation' in Cavite -- NBI
Ten Filipinos have been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in two houses reportedly owned by a foreigner in Bacoor City, Cavite where they were found allegedly engaged in online scam operations.
The names of the suspects were not disclosed by the NBI which said they were arrested by its Cavite North District Office (NBI-CAVIDO North) when the Warrants to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD) were served.
In a statement, the NBI said: “Subjects were caught conversing with clients using fictitious social media accounts. During the operation, a large number of SIM cards and various cellular phones were seized.” NBI added.
It also said that the data, scripts, notes, spiels, and programs found on the devices were being used to perpetrate illegal access, misuse of devices, computer-related fraud, and social engineering scheme.
It added that after the arrest, the 10 suspects were presented for inquest before the Bacoor City Prosecutor’s Office for violations of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and the Anti- Financial Accounts Scamming Act.
