Residents in Luzon and the Visayas should prepare for scattered rains this weekend as the trough of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” continue to affect the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, August 16.
In its weather forecast, PAGASA said the trough of an LPA and the “habagat” are expected to bring rain over large parts of Luzon and the Visayas.
The Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Batanes, and the Babuyan Islands are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA.
Moderate to heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods and landslides in flood-prone and mountainous areas, PAGASA warned.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to influence the western part of the country. Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, the Bicol Region, and the Visayas are forecast to have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, with possible flooding and landslides from prolonged or intense rainfall.
For the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also warned that severe thunderstorms may cause sudden flooding or landslides in vulnerable areas.
The weather bureau advised the public to stay updated on official forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially in low-lying or mountainous communities.
Fisherfolk and those planning sea travel are likewise urged to monitor gale warnings before heading out to sea, it added.
