A man has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Pasay City for allegedly selling abortion pills online.
The NBI identified the suspect as Jonathan Fabia Abetria, who was arrested by the agents of its Dangerous Drugs Division (NBI-DDD) at a warehouse in Pasay City last August 13.
It said that Abetria received marked money that was paid by undercover NBI agents for the purchase of the abortion pills.
“NBI-DDD agents, posing as customers, were able to order a set of abortion pills worth P28,000, another drug worth P8,000, and an alleged ‘rape drug’ priced at 4,500 per piece through a customer service channel,” it also said.
Also seized were significant quantities of “various illegal medications,” it added.
During his arrest, the bureau said that “Subject Abetria was unable to present his Certificate of Registration (COR), Professional Identification Card issued by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and License to Operate (LTO) issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).”
After his arrest, the NBI said that Abetria was charged before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office with violations of the FDA Law in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, the Philippine Pharmacy Act, and the Consumers Act of 1991.
It said it acted on information on a clandestine drug business operated by a certain “Tan,” later identified as Abetria.
“The business allegedly dispensed abortion pills and other abortive medications,” it added.
