A man has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Manila for “sextortion” against a woman whom he had a dating relationship with when they were in Macau.
The NBI identified him as Billy Rose R. dela Cruz who was charged with grave coercion under Article 286 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC); and violations of Republic Act (RA) 9995, the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 in relation to the Cybercrime Law, and RA 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004.
It said that Dela Cruz was apprehended during an operation conducted by operatives of NBI National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) last August 13 at a hotel in Manila where he was caught with his female victim.
Seized from Dela Cruz was his iPhone SE which contained illicit materials, it also said.
Sextortion “is the practice of extorting money or sexual favors from someone by threatening to reveal evidence of their sexual activity.”
The NBI said the operation was conducted based on the complaint of the female victim who disclosed that “she had a dating relationship with the Subject while they were in Macau.”
The complainant told the NBI that “without her consent, Dela Cruz recorded their sexual activity.”
When she returned to Manila, the woman said Dela Cruz “became obsessed and sent videos to the complainant’s workmates, prompting her to resign from her work.”
She also told the NBI that Dela Cruz “threatened to send the explicit video to her family and friends if she would not meet him for sexual intercourse.”
Based on the complaint, the NBI conducted an operation that led to the arrest of Dela Cruz.
