Castro defends Vice Ganda's 'jetski holiday' joke: No one should be overly sensitive about it
No one should be overly sensitive and be easily offended over a joke made by comedian and host Vice Ganda about riding a jet ski to the West Philippine Sea and to the Hague, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said.
PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro
Castro defended Vice Ganda, saying it was only a skit from a concert and that it was also similar to the statement made by former president Rodrigo Duterte in the past, which he later labeled as a joke.
"Unang una kasi, concert naman yun, e. Parang show naman yun. So hindi kailangang maging balat sibuyas ang sinuman (First of all, it was a concert—it was a show. So no one needs to be overly sensitive about it)," Castro said when sought for reaction on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
"At ito naman talaga ay nangyari. Jinoke din naman ni dating pangulong Duterte yung tungkol sa jetski. Sinabi pa niya na ang naniwala sa kanya nung sinabi niyang sasakay siya sa jetski para sa West Philippine Sea, sinabi niyang stupid (And this actually happened before. Former president Duterte also made a joke about the jetski. He even said that those who believed him when he said he would ride a jetski to the West Philippine Sea were stupid),” Castro added.
The Palace officer further said that Duterte's joke even hurt a lot of Filipinos.
"So ngayon kung ginamit ito as part ng concert, siguro dapat hindi naman sila mapikon (So now, if this was used as part of the concert, maybe they should not be so easily offended)," Castro said.
She also added that "in order for you not to be offended, just don't watch it."
