BuCor offers portions of its properties for sports facilities
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has offered to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) portions of its properties in five operating prison and penal farms (OPPFs) in the country for the establishment of sports facilities.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said he sent a letter to PSC Chairman Patrick C. Gregorio and offered the bureau’s properties where the commission can set up regional sports complexes, training centers, athlete villages, and multi-sport facilities.
“By leveraging BuCor's land assets where athletes can thrive, the PSC can create new opportunities for athletes at all levels, from amateur to elite, ensuring that more Filipinos have the chance to pursue their dreams in sports and instill national pride,” Catapang said.
Offered were portions of BuCor’s reservation areas in Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro; Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte; Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Dujali, Davao del Norte; and Zamboanga Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City.
Also offered was BuCor’s Masungi property in Tanay, Rizal.
Catapang said that BuCor’s initiative was made following the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) where President Marcos highlighted the vital role of sports in national development, youth empowerment, and public health.
He also said the BuCor supports PSC’s mission of serving as “the prime catalyst and advocate for the propagation of Philippine sports.”
