Arrested Pampanga town mayor, 2 others remain under NBI custody

A Pampanga town mayor and his two companions remain in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after their arrest for alleged extortion.
Director Jaime B. Santiago said that San Simon town Mayor Abundio Punsalan Jr., his unnamed security aide, and a certain Dr. Ed Ryan Dimla are detained at the NBI’s facility at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
The NBI said that Punsalan and the two others were arrested last Wednesday, August 6, for accepting a P30-million bribe inside a restaurant at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
It said the operation was conducted based on the complaint of Real Steel Corporation which claimed that Punsalan asked for a total of P80 million in exchange for a favorable local government resolution.
