DOE seeks private partners for 100% solar in government facilities
To fully integrate solar energy into government facilities, the Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking a strong partnership with the private sector.
Energy Undersecretary Felix Fuentebella stated on Wednesday, Aug. 6, that private institutions are needed to achieve the full installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, an initiative that aims to lower energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions while also creating jobs in the renewable energy (RE) industry.
“The government is committed to creating an enabling environment for renewable energy, but we need your help to make this real,” Fuentebella said. “Let us aim for 100 percent solar installation in all government buildings.”
Along with supporting the growth of RE in the country, Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB) director Patrick Aquino highlighted the requirements of Department Circular No. 2024-06-0021. This memo mandates that government agencies optimize their energy use and integrate RE into public offices and buildings.
This call for partnership follows the first General Assembly of DOE-registered solar PV installers. The event served as a platform for companies to collaborate, share knowledge, and learn about the latest solar technologies, policies, and programs. Topics included updates on the Solar PV Registry, compliance mechanisms, and public-private partnership opportunities.
While the private partners have not yet been announced, the National Electrification Administration (NEA) had previously shared its goal of energizing 100,000 households this year through its Solar Home Systems initiative, with plans to reach 154,000 households within the next two years.
