ERC greenlights Alabat wind project grid link
Renewable energy (RE) firm Alternergy Holdings Corp.’s wind unit has been granted a regulatory go-signal to link the 64-megawatt (MW) Alabat wind power project in Quezon province to the Luzon grid.
In a statement on Monday, Aug. 4, Alternergy announced that the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the application of Alabat Wind Power Corp. (AWPC) to build and own a point-to-point transmission facility that would link the wind project to the transmission line of National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
According to the RE company, the grid link development is slated to cost around ₱1.8 billion.
This will be done by installing a substation at the wind farm site, as well as a 37-kilometer (km) transmission system from Brgy. Villa Norte in Alabat to Brgy. Hondagua in Lopez, Quezon. It will be connected to the 69-kilovolt (kV) Gumaca-Tagkawayan-Lopez transmission line.
The wind farm is one of Alternergy’s five developing RE projects and is part of the company’s goal to obtain a 500-MW capacity by next year. The Alabat asset is the first wind project to be located on the coastline of the Pacific Ocean, and the first in Quezon.
It is also part of the second round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-3) of the Department of Energy (DOE).
In April, the company acquired ₱3.256 billion in financing from Yuchengco-led Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC).
