About P1 million worth of “fake” Cocomelon candy products have been seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) from a warehouse in Manila.
In a statement, the NBI said the “fake” products were seized during the service of a search warrant last July 30 against MBK Distribution, Inc. in Tondo.
Seized during the operation were 111 boxes of Cocomelon Tattoo Gum and 200 boxes of Cocomelon Long Mallows, it also said.
Charges of violations of Section 155 in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act No. 8293, the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, will be filed against the owners of MBK Distribution, it added.
The NBI said the operation was conducted on the complaint filed by Orion Support, Inc. (OSI) on behalf of its client, Treasure Studios, Inc., which is the registered owner of Cocomelon.
After surveillance, the NBI said it secured a search warrant from Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 24 that was used in the seizure of the “fake” products.
