Damage in La Union from 'Emong' hits P6 B

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and livestock from tropical cyclone ‘’Emong’’ in this province has reached P6 billion.
Two people were killed and three were injured, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said.
A situational report released on Aug. 2 said damage to infrastructure was P5,861,135,269. Damage to agriculture was P145,599,617.86 and P7,093,770 in livestock and poultry.
A 25-year-old resident of San Cornello, Caba, was reported missing on a river at the height of Emong at 3 p.m. on July 25.
A search and rescue operation were immediately conducted the following day and the victim's remains were found on the riverbank on July 27.
The victim was believed to have drowned and swept away by the strong river current.
In San Juan town, a 12-year-old boy died after a fallen mango tree fell on their house in Barangay San Felipe. Three people inside sustained minor injuries.
A total of 27,732 houses were damaged, 33,332  partially and 4,122 totally.
Seventy percent of electricity in this province has been restored.
Gov. Manuel Ortega assured continued assistance to affected residents and vowed to restore the province to normal.
