NPA rebel killed in Quezon encounter

TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – A New People's Army (NPA) rebel was killed and three high-powered firearms were seized in an encounter with the 2nd Infantry Division in Barangay Maguibuay here on Saturday, Aug. 2.
The clash erupted during a security operation prompted by information from residents about the presence of an armed group in the area.
An AK-47 rifle, an M16A1 rifle, M203 grenade launcher, magazines with ammunition, a bandolier, and a wristwatch were found in the battle
site.
The firefight lasted for 20 minutes. The identity of the fatality is still being determined. Clearing and pursuit operations are ongoing.
The military has intensified its campaign in the Southern Tagalog region to eliminate the remaining NPA and protect communities from armed threats.
