Driver, helper arrested, charged for 'stealing' P1.6-M imported meat products
Two personnel of a cargo services company have been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Cainta, Rizal for allegedly stealing P1.6 million worth of imported meat products.
The NBI identified them as driver John A. Mendoza and helper Angelo Ramos, both employees of the JBIZ Cargo Services.
It said the suspects were arrested by the NBI Olongapo District Office (NBI) last July 12 after JBIZ sought the bureau’s assistance to investigate its two personnel who reportedly pilfered meat products delivered to the Arctic Cold Storage facility in Cainta town.
It also said that an inventory showed that 224 boxes of imported meat products were missing, with the approximate value of P1,614,000.
The inventory was conducted at Arctic Storage last July 12 in the presence of representatives of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Department of Agriculture (DA), the NBI said.
It said that while the cargo truck was on the way to Cainta, Mendoza and Ramos tampered with the BOC seal and the global positioning system (GPS) of the vehicle, opened the container, and pilfered its contents.
After their arrest, Mendoza and Ramos were charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila for qualified theft and violation of Republic Act No. 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
