Gordon Ramsay's Cebu debut is all bite, no fuss
The fiery chef's iconic burgers and British fish and chips land in Mactan
BRIT STREET The facade of Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips in Mactan Newtown stands out with its bold British flair — a striking palette of cobalt blue and vibrant red that echoes the Union Jack
Even before the doors opened, the buzz had already begun. A line of eager diners formed outside Gordon Ramsay’s newest restaurants in Cebu’s Mactan Newtown, waiting to get a taste. Inside, media guests got an early look — and bite — into what the acclaimed British chef has brought to the island: flavor, fast service, and a menu that speaks with attitude.
The official opening on July 26 marked two milestones: Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips debuted its first location in Asia, while Street Burger by Gordon Ramsay launched its second outpost in the region. Both are located side by side on the ground floor of Belmont Hotel at Megaworld’s The Mactan Newtown, a fast-developing township in Lapu-Lapu City, where media guests also stayed.
The arrival of the two restaurants follows the debut of Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill at Newport World Resorts earlier this year. Like its fine-dining predecessor, the twin concepts in Cebu are backed by Alliance Global Group through Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc.
Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips brings a touch of British seaside nostalgia to the Philippines. The fast-casual restaurant features counter-style service and bold design in cobalt blue and cherry red. On the menu are crisp fried classics like the wild Alaskan pollock fish and chips, a Slipper Lobster and Shrimp Combo, and the Fishwich sandwich. Everything is served with thick-cut Koffmann’s fries and a line-up of signature sauces such as Curry Mango, Hellfire, and Honey Jalapeño Aioli. There is also soft-serve ice cream and handcrafted milkshakes, including a sticky toffee pudding flavor that captures the chef’s indulgent style.
Just next door, Street Burger by Gordon Ramsay is a louder, meatier affair. Built around a modern American diner feel, it serves smashed beef patties stacked with pickles, sauces, and crunch. Among the highlights is the Hell’s Kitchen Burger, a fiery take that lives up to its name, as well as the O.G.R. and G.F.C. (Gordon’s Fried Chicken) burgers. But the real head-turner for locals may be the Lechon Burger, exclusive to Cebu. It layers spit-roasted pulled pork and crispy lechon skin over a beef patty, with lettuce, pickles, and jalapeños. Dirty Fries, spicy wings, and a range of dipping sauces round out the menu.
“Bringing Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips and Street Burger to Cebu reflects our commitment to bringing globally loved brands to key growth destinations across the country,” said Kevin L. Tan, president and CEO of Alliance Global Group in a press statement. “We are excited to be part of this next chapter in The Mactan Newtown and look forward to supporting the continued growth of Cebu’s tourism and dining economy.”
The openings add momentum to Megaworld’s expansion in Cebu, which includes the upcoming launch of a new international hotel brand and the construction of the Mactan Expo, projected to become the largest standalone convention venue in the province.
As the crowd finally filed in behind us, the burgers were already hitting tables and the scent of fried fish filled the air. Judging by those first bites, the wait was worth it — and Cebu may have just found its newest food destination.
