375 Filipino trafficking victims repatriated in first half of 2025
A total of 375 Filipinos who were victims of human trafficking had been repatriated to the Philippines from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2025, the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) said.
“For the first half of 2025, meron po tayong total 375 (we have a total of 375) Filipino citizens repatriated from outside the country,” said IACAT Executive Director Hannah Lizette Manalili of the Department of Justice (DOJ) during a press conference held Wednesday, July 30.
Manalili said that many of those repatriated have been victims of forced labor in scam hubs in Myanmar, Cambodia, Lebanon, and Malaysia.
She said that the number of Filipino human trafficking victims continues to rise every year.
She cited that for the whole year of 2024, a total of 387 Filipinos were repatriated compared to only 335 in 2023.
Those traditionally vulnerable are those in the lower income bracket, she said.
