A fake agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) involved in a road rage incident in Makati City has been arrested.
The NBI identified him as Jay Ar Cabana who has been posing as NBI agent Paul John C. Jimenez.
It also said that based on the bureau’s records, “Paul John C. Jimenez is not in any way connected with the NBI, either as employee, job order worker or consultant.”
Cabana is currently detained at the NBI’s detention facility located inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
The NBI said Cabana was arrested by operatives of the NBI’s Technical Intelligence Division (NBI-TID) which served a warrant for his arrest at his residence in Quezon City last July 24.
The arrest warrant was issued by Lucena Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 55 where he is facing a non-bailable syndicated estafa case, it also said.
“During the conduct of the arrest, several IDs (identification cards) were found in the immediate vicinity of Subject, all bearing the name Paul John Jimenez and Jay Ar Cabana with photographs of Cabana including a fake NBI ID and NBI Wallet Badge,” the NBI said.
Charges of violations of Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code (Usurpation of Authority), Article 179 of RPC (Illegal Use of Insignia) and Section 3 of Commonwealth Act 142 (Anti-alias Law) will be filed against Cabana, it added.
The NBI said it on the complaint of a motorcycle rider who initially sought assistance before the program of Sen. Raffy Tulfo.
The complainant, identified as Ruben Amor, recounted that he was driving his motorcycle when he got rammed in Makati City last July 13 by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a person who introduced himself as NBI agent John Paul Jimenez.
“According to the complainant, Jimenez showed an NBI Badge on several occasions. He claimed to be a member of the NBI and threatened him," the NBI said.
