Immigration personnel in airports remain in full force despite inclement weather
Immigration personnel in the country’s international airports remain in full force despite inclement weather, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday, July 24.
Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said the BI ensures uninterrupted border service across major international airports amid heavy rains and widespread flooding.
Viado said: “Even with personal hardships and limited mobility, our officers showed up for their duty. Their commitment to their post -- in the middle of major weather disturbance -- is a reminder of the silent but vital role that immigration plays in national security and public service.”
Many BI frontliners reported for duty with some rendering shifts of up to 18 hours straight to maintain border operations and facilitate the arrival and departure of passengers, he also said.
He expressed gratitude to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for rendering assistance to on duty frontliners who are stranded in their homes.
The BI continues to monitor the weather situation in coordination with airport authorities to ensure passenger safety and operational continuity, he added.
Viado advised travelers to stay updated on flight advisories and to exercise patience as airport personnel continue to serve under challenging conditions.
