Bad weather halts anew search for remains of 'sabungeros' in Taal Lake
Bad weather halted anew on Monday, July 21, the search for the remains of the missing “sabungeros” in Taal Lake in Batangas, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.
DOJ Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV said the search was halted due to poor visibility.
The search operation being conducted by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) resumed last Saturday after it was halted last Friday “due to continuous rainfall and surface runoff from the nearby river.”
Authorities have been conducting the search based on statements of an accused turned whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patindongan who claimed that some of the bodies of the missing “sabungeros” were dumped into Taal Lake after being killed.
Earlier, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said that more than 30 persons are under investigation in the “sabungeros” case.
