In a press briefing, Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the trip from July 17 to 20 underscores the Marcos administration’s commitment to providing accessible government services to Filipinos abroad.
“The First Lady’s itinerary includes a visit to the OFW and OWWA Serbisyo Caravan, a one-stop government outreach that offers services to OFWs, including legal aid, financial support, and welfare counseling,” she said on Friday, July 18.
The First Lady will also visit shelters for distressed Filipino women, workers, and children in the Kingdom.
These engagements, Castro noted, reflect the administration’s priority to protect vulnerable groups in the OFW community.
“The trip, originally proposed and scheduled in the first week of July, will highlight the steadfast commitment of the Marcos Administration to the welfare of OFWs and their families,” she said.
First Lady Liza posted on her Facebook page photos of her arrival at the King Khalid International Airport on Friday.
Aside from visiting OFWs, the First Lady will lead the launch of a new one-stop shop in Saudi Arabia. The hub aims to centralize essential services for overseas workers to reduce processing time and improve access to assistance programs.
She will be back in Manila on July 21, a day after President Marcos departs for his official visit to Washington, DC.
“Yun po ang ang dahilan kung bakit hindi po makakasama ang Unang Ginang sa US trip po ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (This is the reason why the First Lady is not part of the President’s trip to the US),” Castro said.
