DOE Officer-in-Charge Sharon S. Garin
The Department of Energy (DOE) announced that former DOE Undersecretary Sharon Garin has been officially inducted as the new Energy chief, following the oath-taking ceremony with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In a statement on Monday, July 14, Garin said that she would build on the work of former Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla, who is now the chief of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“I would like to assure the members of the energy family and our partners in the public and private sectors of the Department’s steadfast commitment to the continuity of energy sector policies and reform initiatives,” she said.
“The strategic direction and institutional reforms laid down under the leadership of former Secretary Lotilla will remain central to our work moving,” Garin added, putting an emphasis on boosting renewable energy (RE) developments, electrification expansion, energy resiliency, and the strengthening of investments.
She noted that the ongoing Green Energy Auction (GEA) is at a steady pace.
“Programs such as the GEA, the steady growth in RE capacity, and the increasing investor confidence in our energy transition framework underscore our collective progress in advancing the President’s policy agenda,” Garin said.
Last week, Malacañang announced that Garin was appointed as the new Energy Secretary, weeks after the cabinet revamp wherein former DOE chief Lotilla has been moved to the DENR.
