Hey, It's Je
It’s all about the vibe this week as we dig into new releases from The Juans and Janine Berdin, to Ben & Ben, Hey It's Je, and more!
Starting with the collaboration between The Juans and Janine Berdin on a new original “Ano Ba Talaga Tayo?” The Juans are a decade into their career, and that’s quite the achievement for Carl Guevarra, Japs Mendoza, Chael Adriano, and RJ Cruz, for in that span, they’ve certainly had their moments in the spotlight.
Remember “Di Tayo Pwede?” that even Regine Velasquez covered? Stick around long enough and you’ll be playing with the greats! They’ve also collaborated with peers, which brings us to Janine Berdin. The Juans X Janine Berdin are a natural pairing. Thematically, both have plumbed ‘hugot’ for as long as we can remember, and the one ain’t no different. Remember Berdin’s “Sitwasyonship”? If you do, then “Ano Ba Talaga Tayo?” seems a continuation theme-wise at least. Carl, Janine, and Japs do a good job projecting all that doubt and desperation about a relationship limbo in their singing, and it's damn catchy too, as they’ve etched quite the fetching bop.
Keanna Mag
Ben & Ben is all about paying it forward on “Alay Kapwa.” Living is easy if we put our best foot forward or if we put our talents to good use. “Let’s build together a world full of care / where everyone can give, and no one is in need,” intones the Guico brothers, ending the verse with utopian intent and the call to action: “Let’s make it happen.” All this while Ben & Ben–the band–rocks steadily with their usual folk-pop and rock flair.
Jason Dhakal is a bright name in the neo R&B and Pinoy soul scene. Whether he’s doing a collab with Arthur Nery or on his own, Jason Dhakal keeps his stylistic standards high, and it applies to his latest “MAGIC.” Lo-fi chill meets steady grooved beats on this head-bobbing mid-tempo burner that’s perfect for an early evening sound trip with either cold beer, whiskey, or some THC-vape magic in hand.
Giving off some positivity is ALLMO$T hook singer Jom with his new solo song “Nnmn.” Jom seems to be getting better as he goes along, and this bouncy, vibing R&B pop song is a testament to Jom’s growing pop sensibilities. And for the record, “Nnmn” is abbreviated as ‘nanaman.'

Singer-songwriter and solo act Keanna Mag gets pop-rockin' on “Babalik.” This acoustic guitar-driven tune seems to harken back to late 90s alt-pop, and it makes us think of Kitchie Nadal, Session Road, and Natalie Imbruglia. Now, if these names make sense to you, congratulations on making it to your mid-40s! But in the context of Keanna Mag, it just means that her music recalls some pretty-sounding pop biggies.
Hey, It's Je. This month’s best musical discovery is hands down. AKA ‘Jec Llorens,’ Hey, Je's ultra-infectious pop ditty “Bawat Araw Mas Mahal Kita” is currently on repeat on my playlist. Straight-up adoring lyrics wrapped in ear-candy melodies is the order of the day for this Canada-based Filipino singer who’s starting to get a buzz for himself, opening for touring Pinoy acts and for infectious numbers such as this one. Hey, It's Je's new single is the inspiration for this week’s article title, because listening to him on this one puts us in a good mood. It’s one of those songs that make you think of good days, of old high-school crushes, or a pretty smiling face. It won’t be far off to say that Hey, it's Je is a vibe all unto himself.
