CEBU CITY – Flight delays and schedule changes were experienced at the Mactan Cebu International Airport on Saturday, July 12.
The disruption was caused by ongoing repairs at the primary runway of the ariport.
Lawyer Glen Nauli, assistant general manager of Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority, said the airport’s primary runway was already due for repair.
The repair was supposed to be conducted last Friday night, July 11, but was halted due to heavy rains.
“Passenger safety is our top priority, and we are working closely with airlines to minimize disruption. We apologize for the inconvenience and we thank all travelers for their patience. We highly encourage all passengers to kindly check and coordinate with their respective airlines for further developments,” the MCIAA said in a statement.
Around 5 p.m., the secondary runway was opened for operations while immediate repairs were being done in the primary runway.
Advisories and notices were sent out to the airlines regarding the ongoing situation.
The repairs to the primary runway were expected to be completed by 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
