125 PDLs at CIW finished DepEd's Alternative Learning System
A total of 125 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City have finished the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program of the Department of Education (DepEd).
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said those who finished the program were feted in a graduation ceremony held last July 3.
Of those who graduated, 58 finished Junior High School A&E (accreditation and equivalency); 17 Advanced Elementary A&E; 11 Basic Literacy Program; 10 Lower Elementary completers; 16 Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE); five ALIVE Lower; and eight ALIVE Advanced, the BuCor said.
It also said that there was a 100 percent passing rate for the PDLs who took the nationwide accreditation and equivalency tests for elementary and junior high school that was conducted last January 26.
During the graduation ceremony, the BuCor said Dr. Alyn G. Mendoza, chief of the Education Supervisor of the Curriculum Implementation Division of DepEd, explained “the vital role of alternative education in providing hope and second chances.”
It added that Mendoza pledged the DepEd’s continued support to CIW’s ALS Program, including resources and training for PDL teachers.
