The local government of Marikina has suspended the classes at all levels in both public and private schools in the city on Thursday, July 10, due to the continuous rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
The suspension was also ordered in view of the anticipated worsening weather conditions, as forecast by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Marikina Mayor Maan Teodoro emphasized that the safety of students is the city’s top priority.
“Mahalaga ang kaligtasan ng bawat isang taga-Marikina lalo na ng ating mga mag-aaral kaya ipinapayo na isagawa ang kaukulang pag-iingat (The safety of every Marikeño, especially our students, remains a top priority. Therefore, everyone is advised to take the necessary precautions),”
On Thursday morning, PAGASA said that while no tropical cyclone is expected to affect the Philippines in the coming days, the habagat will continue to bring rains, especially to western parts of the country.
“Ngayon, patuloy pa rin ang pag-iral ng southwest monsoon sa buong bansa natin. Ito rin ang nagdadala ng mga pag-ulan lalo na rito sa western section ng ating bansa (Right now, the southwest monsoon continues to affect the entire country. It is also bringing rain, especially over the western section of the Philippines),” PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez reported.
Dominguez said the agency is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but it poses no threat.
