While no tropical cyclone is expected to affect the Philippines in the coming days, the southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to bring rains, especially to western parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, July 10.
“Ngayon, patuloy pa rin ang pag-iral ng southwest monsoon sa buong bansa natin. Ito rin ang nagdadala ng mga pag-ulan lalo na rito sa western section ng ating bansa (Right now, the southwest monsoon continues to affect the entire country. It is also bringing rain, especially over the western section of the Philippines),” PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez reported.
She said the agency is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but it poses no threat.
“Ngayon mayroon tayong binabantayang low-pressure area dito sa loob ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility (We are currently monitoring a low-pressure area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility),” Dominguez said.
The state weather bureau said the LPA was last spotted 540 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
“Mababa naman ang tyansa nito na maging isang ganap na bagyo at wala naman direktang epekto sa anumang parte ng ating bansa. At possible rin itong lumabas ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility (There is a low chance of it developing into a tropical cyclone and it has no direct effect on any part of the country. It’s also possible that it may exit PAR),” said Dominguez.
She added that a former tropical cyclone, Bising (international name Danas), has already weakened into a low-pressure area after interacting with land in China.
“Ito ngayon ay isa na lamang low-pressure area dahil na rin sa interaction nito sa kalupaan ng China (It is now just a low-pressure area due to its interaction with the landmass of China).”
According to the state weather bureau, Bising’s last known location was 745 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.
“Hindi naman din natin ito inaasahang papasok ito ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility at magkakaroon ng epekto sa anumang parte ng ating bansa (We also do not expect it to enter PAR or have any effect on any part of the country),” she said.
