- Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said the poll body is open to investigation after a group led by lawyer Alexander Lacson filed a criminal complaint with the NBI accusing Comelec of interfering in the May 2025 elections, which Garcia defended as orderly, honest, and credible.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Thursday, July 10, that the poll body is open to any form of investigation or scrutiny regarding the May 2025 elections.

This was after a criminal complaint was filed before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against Comelec for alleged interference during the midterm elections last May 12.
The group of complainants claimed that the Comelec committed 55,874,700 counts of violation of system interference under paragraph 4, Section 4 (a) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10175, the Anti-Cybercrime Law.
"Pinagkakatiwalaan po ng sambayanan ang NBI at ganun din po kami sa Komisyon. Lahat po ng mga binabanggit nila ay matagal at paulit ulit na po naming nasagot at pinabulaanan (The public places its trust in the NBI, and so do we in the Commission. All of the issues they are raising have long been repeatedly answered and denied by us)," Garcia said.
"Masasabi po naming sa pangkalahatan ay naging maayos, matapat, bukas, tahimik at kapani-paniwala ang resulta ng halalan (We can say that, overall, the election results were orderly, honest, transparent, peaceful, and credible)," he added.
Garcia said that this is attested to by groups that observed and monitored the elections, such as the PPCRV, the EU, various embassies, churches, schools, and public and private organizations in the country.
He added that such dissenting views or opposing positions are to be expected as part of a healthy democracy.
The complaints were led by lawyer Alexander L. Lacson, one of the convenors of the groups Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Mamamayan and Council of Church Leaders for National Transformation.
Named respondents were Garcia; Commissioners Aimee P. Ferolino-Ampologuio, Rey E. Bulay, Ernesto Ferdinand P. Maceda Jr., Nelson J. Celis, Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal, and Noli R. Pipo; and officers of the Comelec’s Information Technology.
