15 policemen could be charged on deaths of 'sabungeros' – SOJ Remulla
Fifteen policemen could face charges over their involvement in the disappearance and deaths of “sabungeros” or cockfight enthusiasts, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said on Friday, July 4.
Remulla said the movements of the 15 policemen have been restricted and they have been directed to report only to their offices.
He said that during the investigation of the cases, there were allegations that the policemen carried out the execution of the “sabungeros.”
When asked if charges will be filed against the policemen, Remulla said “doon na papunta yan (that is where it is headed to).”
He did not disclose the names of the policemen or their areas of assignments.
Remulla met at the DOJ in Manila the members of the families of the “sabungeros” and assured them that the department is not leaving any stone unturned to resolve the cases.
Earlier, Remulla said that businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang and his celebrity girlfriend Gretchen Barretto have been tagged as suspects and are now under investigation.
Ang and Barretto have denied the accusations against them.
