Malacañang has expressed its support for moves to institutionalize transparency in the budget deliberations.
PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Palace respects the independence of the Congress in pushing to institutionalize a transparent budget process by opening bicameral deliberations to the public.
“We respect the independence of the Congress pero kapag po ang pinag-usapan ay pagsasapubliko ng anumang transaksyon patungkol sa gobyerno, mas maganda po talaga na maging transparent ang bawat galaw ng taumbayan (but if making any government transactions public is being discussed, it is indeed better that every move would be transparent to the public),” Castro said in a Palace briefing on Tuesday, July 1.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez and other lawmakers have expressed support for opening the bicameral deliberation to the public.
The Senate also said it is open to proposals seeking to enhance transparency of the budget process.
