Marcos led the turnover of the mobile soil laboratory (MSL) units at the Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija on Monday, June 30.
The units are intended to cover every region in the country. The new units were in addition to the first mobile soil laboratory launched in December 2024.
Malacañang said the MSL units are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, resources and safety features capable of analyzing 44 soil chemical, physical and microbiological, as well as water chemical parameters.
In December last year, the President inaugurated the first MSL in a ceremony at the Malacañan Palace. Since then, the pilot MSL operation has been deployed in Tarlac and Nueva Ecija where it has analyzed approximately 1,500 soil samples equivalent to more than 300 hectares of land.
Regional Soil Laboratory chiefs will oversee the day-to-day operations of the MSL units, following the protocols and guidelines set by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM).
In launching the first MSL last year, Marcos said the project “aims to give our farmers the knowledge and the technology they can use for a scientific method of farming.”
He said it will also provide data to agencies in coming up with policies in aid of the real necessities of the agriculture sector.
According to the President, the lab test results from the mobile laboratory can be provided to farmers in five days. Services will also be provided for free on the initial operation of the laboratory.
The MSL is a project of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) under its National Soil Health Program.
