CEBU CITY – A 32-year-old man who had been in and out of jail was gunned down inside his house in Barangay Sambag 2 here on Monday, June 23.
Police said the victim, Macgied Lavistre Villamala, was asleep when at least six persons broke into his house and repeatedly shot him.
Police said the assailants covered their faces with a piece of cloth.
The victim was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center here where he was declared dead.
Police learned that the victim had been jailed several times.
The attack happened just a few days after the victim was released from jail due to drug charges, police said.
Police Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, deputy director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office, said investigators are already pursuing some persons of interest.
Investigators are eyeing illegal drugs as possible motive of the crime.
The attack in Barangay Sambag 2 happened a day after an ex-convict was killed in Barangay San Nicolas Proper here.
Ronnie Aya-ay Lawas, 33, was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men on Sunday morning, June 22.
Police said Lawas had just been released from the Abuyog Penal Farm in Leyte after serving his sentence for murder and illegal possession of firearms.
Revenge is being considered as the motive of the crime.
