The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is aiming to complete a new four-storey school building within a year in Quezon City to replace a facility destroyed by fire.
DPWH–Quezon City 1st District Engineer Arturo L. Gonzales Jr. said the agency has finalized the preliminary draft of the reconstruction plan for the Dao Building, located within San Francisco High School (SFHS).
He said site inspections will continue to ensure the timely and efficient implementation of the project.
In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the new structure will rise on the site of the gutted two-storey building constructed in 1985, which previously housed 10 classrooms and was destroyed just before the opening of the school year.
The upgraded facility will feature 36 classrooms to address the long-term needs of one of Quezon City’s largest public high schools.
It is expected to provide displaced students with a safer and more modern learning environment.
President Marcos visited the site on Jun. 18 to inspect the damage, accompanied by Education Secretary Sonny M. Angara, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and officials from the Department of Education (DepEd), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the DPWH.
